How to read your result

Enter the NCB shown on your expiring policy and whether you made a claim this year. If you stayed claim-free, the calculator moves you one step up the ladder. If you claimed, NCB drops to zero at the next renewal — unless you have an NCB Protection add-on, which typically lets you keep your current NCB for a limited number of claims.

Rules that protect (or cost) your NCB

  • Renew within 90 days of expiry. After that, NCB is lost even if you never claimed.
  • NCB belongs to you, not the vehicle. When you sell, keep the NCB and apply it to your next vehicle using an NCB certificate or the expiring policy.
  • Switching insurer does not reset NCB. Your new insurer should give you the same NCB; check it on every quote.
  • Small claims can be expensive. Use the claim vs pay calculator before claiming for minor damage.

NCB FAQs

Does NCB reduce the third-party premium?

No. Third-party premium is fixed by the Government and NCB is applied only on the own-damage portion.

Can I transfer NCB from my old car to a new car?

Yes, as long as the new vehicle is in the same class (car to car, bike to bike) and you apply it within the validity period. Ask your old insurer for an NCB certificate or retention letter when you sell.

Does a windshield or theft claim affect NCB?

Any own-damage claim paid under the policy generally resets NCB, including theft and total loss. Some insurers treat specific claims differently, so check your policy wording.
