How two-wheeler premium is built
A comprehensive two-wheeler policy has an own-damage part (driven by IDV, cc, age and zone), a fixed third-party part, the compulsory owner-driver PA cover, optional add-ons and 18% GST. For most commuter bikes the third-party premium is a large share of the total, which is why NCB and IDV changes move the final price less than they do for cars.
Third-party base premiums for two-wheelers
| Vehicle | Annual TP premium |
|---|---|
| Two-wheeler up to 75cc | ₹538 |
| Two-wheeler 76–150cc | ₹714 |
| Two-wheeler 151–350cc | ₹1,366 |
| Two-wheeler above 350cc | ₹2,804 |
| Electric two-wheeler up to 3 kW | ₹457 |
| Electric two-wheeler 3–7 kW | ₹607 |
| Electric two-wheeler 7–16 kW | ₹1,161 |
| Electric two-wheeler above 16 kW | ₹2,383 |

Example
A 125cc scooter with an IDV of ₹65,000 in Zone B, under five years old, 20% NCB and a 50% insurer discount on the tariff rate: basic OD comes to about ₹545, NCB takes off ₹109, the third-party premium is ₹714, PA cover adds around ₹330, and GST brings the total to roughly ₹1,750. Bike premium FAQs
Is third-party-only cover enough for a bike?
It is the legal minimum, but it pays nothing if your own bike is stolen or damaged. For a bike worth more than a few thousand rupees, the extra cost of own-damage cover is usually small compared with the risk.
Why does my new bike policy show five years of third-party premium?
New two-wheelers must carry long-term third-party cover for five years. Own-damage cover can be bought for one year and renewed separately.
Does engine cc affect own-damage premium?
Yes, a little. The reference OD rate rises slightly with cc. The bigger effect of cc is on the third-party premium.
